The Ministry of Information and Civic Education has dismissed as false a widely circulated press release claiming that the Government has reduced the fuel price.

In a public statement, the Ministry clarified that it has not reviewed or approved any changes to current fuel prices and urged citizens to disregard the purported announcement.

“The press release is fake and should be ignored,” the Ministry stated, emphasising that there has been no adjustment to the pump price of petroleum products.

The fake release alleged that following a meeting between the Government and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to assess international petroleum price trends, authorities had approved a reduction in retail fuel prices.

It further claimed that the new prices were set at NLe 30.00 per litre for petrol and NLe 32.00 per litre for diesel, with immediate effect.

However, the Ministry has refuted these claims, noting that no such decision has been taken.

The Ministry of Information and Civic Education has therefore urged the public to rely only on official communication channels for accurate and verified information.

“Citizens are encouraged to follow the Ministry for authentic updates and to say no to fake news,” the statement concluded.
