The Office of the President has announced that Sierra Leone will observe its 65th Independence Anniversary on Monday, 27 April 2026, under the theme: “Building a Responsive, Resilient and Cohesive Sierra Leone.”

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Press Secretary at State House in Freetown on Thursday, 23 April 2026, this year’s celebrations will be marked in a modest but meaningful manner, in line with directives from His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio.

As part of the commemoration, an interfaith service will be held at State House on Monday, 27 April 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The service is expected to bring together religious leaders and citizens in a shared moment of unity, gratitude, and reflection on the nation’s progress since independence.

The statement further encouraged nationwide spiritual observances ahead of the main event. Muslims across the country have been invited to offer prayers for Sierra Leone and its people on Friday, 24 April 2026, while Christians are encouraged to do the same on Sunday, 26 April 2026.

State House noted that these collective acts of worship are intended to strengthen national unity and reinforce the bonds that connect citizens across different faiths and communities.

As Sierra Leone marks 65 years of independence, the Presidency emphasized that the occasion should serve as a reminder of the country’s resilience, courage, and shared responsibility in nation-building. It called on citizens to renew their commitment to peace, hard work, and compassion as the country continues its development journey.
