Former President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma pleaded to the Government of Sierra Leone and Non-Governmental Organizations to quickly provide support to the victims of the fuel tanker explosion at Wellington in Freetown.
The former President joined thousands of Sierra Leoneans home and abroad to mourn the death of innocent souls and sympathize with the victims and their families.
Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma who attended the 12th High Level Retreat on the promotion of Peace, Security and Stability in Africa which took place in Kenya tweeted and pleaded to the government and NGOs to provide support for the victims. He also called for a speedy investigation that led to the explosion.
“My heart goes out to the injured and the families of the unfortunate victims.
I urge the government and appeal to NGOs to quickly provide the relevant support to the victims while speedily investigate the explosion.
May the souls of the departed rest in peace!” –Former President Koroma tweeted.
Deeply saddened by last night’s terrible fire accident in the Eastern part of Freetown which was reportedly owing to a petrol tanker explosion.
The scenes are truly depressing with scores of our compatriots reportedly killed or badly injured.” – He added.
On Friday 5th November, 2021 at around 10:00 PM, a forty feet NP fuel tanker collided with a tipper truck that led to the spill of fuel from the tank. Residents around rushed to fetch the fuel as it was spilling all over the street. Unfortunately, the fuel tanker exploded and led to deaths, destruction of vehicles, motorbikes, shops, business tables and many other properties.
