The Government of Sierra Leone has officially accepted the resignation of its High Commissioner to Kenya, Her Excellency Isatu Aminata Bundu, marking the end of her diplomatic service under President Julius Maada Bio’s administration.

The resignation comes nearly six months after her father, Hon. Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu, stepped down as Speaker of Parliament.

High Commissioner Bundu has formally bid farewell to the staff of the Sierra Leone High Commission in Nairobi, as well as to Kenya’s President, William Ruto, signaling her departure from her role.

Her resignation follows her distinguished tenure as Sierra Leone’s top diplomat in Kenya, during which she was responsible for managing bilateral relations between the two countries and representing Sierra Leone in various diplomatic engagements.

The government’s acceptance of her resignation was communicated through an official letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The letter, addressed to Bundu, outlined the next steps, including the appointment of Mr. Abdul K. Kargbo, Minister Plenipotentiary, to serve as Charge d’Affaires ad interim at the High Commission in Kenya until a new High Commissioner is appointed.

As part of the repatriation process, the government has instructed the Mission to promptly notify Kenyan authorities and other diplomatic missions in Nairobi of the transition, while also making necessary arrangements for Bundu’s return to Sierra Leone.

The repatriation costs, including business class tickets for the High Commissioner and her spouse, as well as economy class tickets for her three children, will be handled in accordance with Section 45 of the Public Procurement Act of 2004.

Additionally, the shipment of her personal effects and vehicle will be facilitated through the appropriate channels.

Bundu’s departure comes at a significant moment for the Bundu family, following her father’s resignation from a prominent political role as speaker or parliament in Sierra Leone.

Her resignation marks a turning point in her diplomatic career, as she moves on from her position as Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to Kenya.

Sierra Leone now awaits the appointment of a new High Commissioner to Kenya, while Mr. Abdul K. Kargbo assumes the interim leadership of the diplomatic mission.
