The Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has made payment of NLe60,691,310 as second-term school fees for 2,448,003 pupils in Pre Primary, Primary, Junior, and Senior Secondary Schools in Government and Government Assisted Schools for the 2022/2023 academic year.

This information was published in a press release issued by the Government on Wednesday 26th April 2023.

It was stated that all payments have been made directly to the bank accounts of beneficiary schools based on the approved school list and enrolment data submitted by MBSSE.

The press release also stated that the government is aware of the role of tuition fees in the effective functioning of schools and its impact on the quality of education.

The government is therefore encouraging school authorities to be submitting credible enrolment data on time to facilitate timely payment of tuition fees.

The press release concluded by advising Commercial Banks to Credit the respective schools’ accounts without further delay.
