The Government of Sierra Leone has announced plans to repatriate citizens who have overstayed their visas in the United States.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Timothy Kabba, disclosed that a tripartite committee has been established, comprising representatives from the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA), the Immigration Department, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The committee is tasked with identifying Sierra Leoneans who traveled using national documents and are currently residing in the U.S. without valid immigration status, with the goal of facilitating their repatriation.

“This tripartite committee is currently conducting a thorough vetting process, and once Sierra Leoneans who traveled with our national documents and are living abroad illegally are identified, we will facilitate their return home,” Minister Kabba stated.

He emphasized that the Government is in close collaboration with U.S. authorities to ensure that the visa restrictions imposed on Sierra Leone are lifted.

Minister Kabba also urged Sierra Leoneans living in the U.S. illegally to return voluntarily, noting that doing so would help create opportunities for others to travel legally.
