Sierra Leone’s democratic framework gained momentum as International Moral Guarantors deepened engagements with key electoral and civil registration bodies.
The high-level delegation, which is mediating between the Government of Sierra Leone and the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), met with officials of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) and the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA) as part of ongoing oversight of the 2023 Agreement for National Unity.
Led by former Gambian Vice President, Hon. Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, the team comprises representatives from the United Nations, ECOWAS, the Commonwealth, and other partner institutions committed to supporting democratic stability in the country.

At the centre of the discussions were issues relating to electoral integrity, data management, and institutional cooperation. The delegation held talks with ECSL
Chairman and Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Edmond Sylvester Alpha, and his team of Commissioners, as well as NCRA Director General, Mr. Mohamed M. Massaquoi.
The engagement signals a proactive approach by international partners to ensure accountability and transparency, while also strengthening public confidence in electoral systems and governance structures.
It further reflects sustained international interest in Sierra Leone’s post-election environment, with emphasis on dialogue, collaboration, and the effective implementation of agreed reforms under the Unity Agreement.
