The repatriation process of Sierra Leoneans from Guinea has now been successfully completed, with the final health checks cleared at the border in Kambia District.

Awoko reports that upon arrival, each repatriate’s personal information was entered into a system, followed by a thorough health screening to assess their condition. After registration and the necessary tests, they were instructed to wait outside as officials discussed their safe return to their homes.

Following these discussions, the repatriates have been escorted by security personnel to their respective districts and towns, where they will be joyously reunited with their families. Among the repatriates were individuals from various regions, including Bo, Makeni, and Freetown.

A medical officer stationed at the border shared that all individuals were cleared following the health screening. “There were no concerns of any infections. The only noticeable symptom was cold, which was common among many. A significant number of them had medical results from Mercy Ship and had already received treatment for their cold symptoms,” he explained.

In an interview with Awoko, border officials revealed that during the repatriation, a few individuals attempted to return to Guinea illegally. While most were successful in crossing, four individuals were apprehended by the Guinean Gendarmerie. “They informed us about the four Sierra Leoneans they had caught, and we promptly went to bring them back,” one official stated.

Currently, no one has been observed returning to Guinea through the official border channels. During a recent visit to the area, the border was calm and operations were running as usual.
