The Guma Valley Water Company has embarked on a crucial journey under the guidance of its new Board Chairman, Ing. David Karim Fonnie, to improve water infrastructure and service delivery in the Western Area.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in Guma’s efforts to provide clean and sustainable water sources. The recent two-week tour of the company’s facilities, project sites, and stakeholder engagements ended on July 25th.

The Chairman, along with the Board of Directors, visited key infrastructure sites to gain firsthand insights into the company’s operations, challenges, and ongoing projects. The tour included the Kongo Dam at Regent, currently under rehabilitation, and the Babadorie Reservoir, where nine new reservoirs are being constructed to improve water supply in high-zone areas such as Regent, IMATT, Hill Station, Gloucester, and Leicester. Additional site visits included the Allen Town Reservoir, Hastings Weir, and the Guma Dam at Mile 13, demonstrating the company’s commitment to expanding water access in underserved communities. Notably, the new Angola Water Supply System, which is 98% complete, aims to enhance water storage capacity and stabilize supply for residents between the Emergency Hospital Area at Goderich and Hamilton.

The Board Directors interacted with project engineers, community leaders, and customers, emphasizing stakeholder involvement and transparency. These interactions provided valuable feedback on the challenges faced by various communities. The inspection of aging infrastructure highlighted the urgent need for rehabilitation and modernization, with leaking pipes and inefficient distribution networks identified as critical issues.

The Chairman reiterated Guma’s commitment to addressing these challenges through collaborative efforts and responsive service delivery. The knowledge gained from the tour will assist the Board in making informed decisions and driving the company toward a successful and sustainable future. Officials on this tour included Ing. Mohamed B.A. Timbo, Mr. Peter J. Amara, Hon. Safula Moijueh, Managing Director Maada S. Kpenge, Deputy Managing Director Prince Moore-Sourie, and other senior officers.

The tour set a positive tone for the future, reinforcing the company’s commitment to providing reliable and equitable water services to all citizens in the Western Area.
