Hardit Strikers were crowned champions of the Tonkolili District Division Two for the 2023/2024 season on Saturday On Saturday, June 29th, 2024 .
The team from the gold-rich mining town of Masombiri secured their victory against Rokel Strikers in a post-match penalty shootout with a score of 4-2.
Rokel Strikers who had remained undefeated throughout the league until the finals fought relentlessly for the trophy but were ultimately unsuccessful. The first half of the match was highly intense yet both teams struggled to create significant chances a trend that continued throughout the entire match.
This remarkable achievement by Hadit has earned them promotion to the regional top-tier league, NERFA Division One.
The grand finale which played at the Magburaka Town Field attracted numerous football dignitaries from across the country. Among those in attendance were Harold Nat-Johnson, Vice President 1 of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA); Brimah Jalloh, Chairman of NERFA; Abdul Pascal Gbla, Chairman of TDFA; and Mohamed Milton Koroma, Head of Competition, NERFA, along with several members of TDFA.
In his address, TDFA Chairman Abdul Pascal Gbla applauded the efforts of all participating teams for their tremendous contributions to making this year’s league a success.
Chairman Pascal also made an earnest plea to the SLFA, through Vice President 1 Nat-Johnson for the district to be provided with an artificial turf. He emphasized the importance and impact of having such a facility for the growth and development of football in the district. In response, SLFA VP 1 Nat-Johnson disclosed that the Executive Committee has discussed the construction of an artificial turf in Magburaka and assured that the project would be realized.
NERFA Chairman Brimah Jalloh congratulated the champions and welcomed them to Division One stating that they are now under the direct supervision of the region.
The event concluded with the certification and awarding of trophies marking the high point of the occasion.
