Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Harold Saffa, has called for stronger ties between the African Union (AU) and the Arab League, emphasizing the need for enhanced cooperation to tackle regional conflicts and promote global stability.
This call was made during a diplomatic engagement with Arab League Secretary General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, in Cairo, where critical discussions were held on the ongoing crises in Sudan, Somalia, Libya, Palestine, and Lebanon.
Ambassador Saffa underscored the importance of a united front between the AU and the Arab League in addressing these issues.
He argued that stronger collaboration between the two organizations would be crucial in formulating effective strategies to restore peace and stability in Africa and the Arab world.
In addition to his dialogue with the Arab League, Ambassador Saffa met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and Egypt, as well as potential areas for regional cooperation.
During his visit to Cairo, Ambassador Saffa and the AU delegation also visited the Egyptian National Police Training College. There, he met four Sierra Leonean police officers undergoing peacekeeping training.
Ambassador Saffa encouraged the officers to use their new skills and knowledge to enhance the image of the Sierra Leone Police and contribute to peacekeeping efforts back home.
The AU delegation later traveled to Port Sudan, where they held discussions with General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan, Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council, and various civil society leaders.
These talks aimed at identifying a roadmap for peace in Sudan, underscoring the region’s collective efforts toward resolving ongoing conflicts.
