Minster of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Dr Memunatu Pratt and group of Diaspora Sierra Leoneans through the root tourism and citizenship programme have just found their home land Sierra Leone. This event took place at the Shangri-la multi purpose hall along Lumley Beach Road.

“Home again, home again

When shall I see my home?

When shall I see my native land

I shall never forget my home”

As they sing this song together with the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr Memunatu Pratt, the group could not help but got emotional.

They were sad that their ancestors were forcefully taken away from their homeland but consoled by the fact that they were alive to witness the reconnection to the motherland.

As they matched into the staircase of Shangri-la multi purpose hall along Lumley Beach Road, the new Sierra Leoneans could not help but danced to the drumming by the country’s premier dance troupe – the National Dance Troupe.

The 100+ participants had one thing in mind – that they would definitely learn a lot about their recently found home. They equally anticipated to know the possible areas of investment and how they could help.

The root tourism and citizenship programme is organized by the Government of Sierra Leone to make provision for descendants of formerly enslaved Sierra Leoneans to reclaim their birthright.

Experts from various ministries, departments and agencies did presentations aimed at educating the new citizens about the benefits associated with this country’s citizenship. They did series of presentations on the rights and responsibilities of citizens of Sierra Leone.

The Monuments and Relics Commission is leading the organization of this event which is held every April and November.

A conferment ceremony is scheduled for early December 2022 where they will subscribed to the oath of allegiance in the presence of the President of Sierra Leone.
