The International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor, Karim Asad Ahmad Khan KC, held a productive meeting with Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.

According to a statement from the ICC, the discussion focused on strengthening cooperation between the ICC and Sierra Leone, as well as fostering regional dialogue in accordance with the Rome Statute.

The ICC Prosecutor expressed his commitment to deepening engagement with the region to support the Court’s work and the effective application of international humanitarian law.

This is not the first time both parties will meet. In September 2023, the Prosecutor met with President Bio on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In a tweet, the ICC said the meeting centered around positive discussions on strengthening cooperation and deepening regional dialogue in fulfillment of the Rome Statute.

After the meeting, President Bio expressed delight at the event adding that it was a discussion about Sierra Leone’s leadership at the International Criminal Court and our tenure as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
