The Iceland Government together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed a financial agreement for the former to provide 200,000 US Dollars for the June 2023 elections.

The money will be placed under the Electoral Basket Fund which will be managed and controlled by the UNDP.

The fund was created to foster peaceful and credible elections in Sierra Leone.

Development partners believe that the fund will support Elections Project since it is within the ambit of the operations of the Electoral Commission Sierra Leone (ECSL).

They said it will also promote the participation of voters especially women and disabled people.

Sierra Leone will hold its multi-tier election on 24 June this year and funding in the past has been a critical phase for elections management.
