The Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) unequivocally condemns the statement made by Mr. Abdul Kadiru Kaikai, which was widely circulated on social media. Mr. Kaikai’s declaration to incite a devastating conflict if he does not become President in 2028 is not only deeply irresponsible but also poses a significant threat to the peace and stability of our beloved nation.

Such incendiary rhetoric is entirely unacceptable and stands in stark opposition to the values of peace, unity, and democratic principles that we, as a nation, hold dear. The ICPNC, established to foster harmony and national cohesion, views these statements with grave concern, particularly their potential to incite violence and disrupt the hard-earned peace that Sierra Leone has worked tirelessly to maintain. We are deeply troubled by the potential harmful effects that his statement can have on individuals, communities, and society as a whole. Therefore, we stand in solidarity as a Commission to unequivocally condemn it.

Sierra Leone has made tremendous strides in building a peaceful and cohesive society. The ICPNC believes in Sierra Leone’s potential to be an anchor of peace and democracy in West Africa. As a Commission, we stand resolute in our commitment to maintaining peace and national cohesion to achieve this vision.

The ICPNC commends the swift actions taken by the Sierra Leone Police and the Criminal Investigations Department in apprehending Chief Abdul Kadiru Kaikai and initiating a thorough investigation into this matter.

ICPNC stated, “We call on all individuals and organizations to reject hate speech and incitement to violence in all its forms. We must work together to create a society that is inclusive, respectful, and just for all. Let us work together to preserve the peace that defines us as a nation and strive toward a prosperous and harmonious future for all. We urge all Sierra Leoneans to remain vigilant and to continue to engage in constructive and peaceful dialogue. Our collective efforts are vital in ensuring that our nation remains a beacon of peace, unity, and democracy.”
