In a major step towards improving the welfare of police officers and their families, Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu has officially inaugurated a new Police Health Centre in Lungi, designated as a medical hub for the North West Region.
The facility aims to provide quality healthcare to law enforcement personnel and their dependents.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including Honourable MP Alhaji Sheik Ibrahim Santigie Kargbo, the Chiefdom Speaker of Kaffu Bullom, representatives from the 15th Infantry Battalion, and officials from the Lungi Government Hospital.
Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, Deputy Director and Medical Superintendent, thanked the IGP for the initiative, noting that the centre is fully equipped with trained medical staff, essential supplies, and laboratory facilities. The centre also has wards for both male and female patients, allowing short-term admissions of up to one week.
Dr. Konteh urged police officers and their families to make responsible use of the facility, emphasizing the IGP’s focus on extending healthcare services across the country. He also announced that a team of medical expatriates will be arriving in November 2024 to conduct free surgical operations.
Regional Commander Joseph Ibrahim Lahai, representing the IGP, commended the collective effort behind the project, stating that it reflects the IGP’s dedication to the welfare of police personnel nationwide. He encouraged collaboration between medical teams from the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), and Lungi Government Hospital to meet shared healthcare goals.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a ceremonial tape-cutting, marking the official opening of the health centre. This facility is seen as a crucial investment in the health and well-being of police officers and their families in the region.
