During the Ministry of Information and Communications’ weekly press briefing, Minister Chernor Bah provided clarification regarding recent actions taken by Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, who paid fines for prisoners in Pujehun and Kenema.
Addressing the public, Minister Bah explained that the Chief Minister assisted inmates who had been unable to pay fines imposed by the court, with amounts ranging from NLE500 to NLE1000.
The Minister emphasized that this initiative was motivated by the belief that no one should remain imprisoned solely because of poverty or an inability to afford minimal fines.
Minister Bah highlighted that the Chief Minister’s gesture aligns with his broader commitment to justice and fairness, ensuring that people are not unfairly disadvantaged by their financial status.
The move, he clarified, was not about undermining the justice system but rather helping those who had already been penalized but could not afford their freedom.
This act of compassion, Minister Bah noted, is part of a broader effort by the Chief Minister to address systemic inequalities and ensure fairness in the treatment of individuals across the country.
