Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has met with Entertainment Ambassador and rapper Kaodenero in a bid to resolve recent tensions over conflicting event dates.
In a Facebook post, Minister Bah described the artist as a “close friend and dear brother,” noting that both parties held frank discussions regarding the scheduling issue that had sparked backlash from the rapper’s supporters. He announced that they have reached an agreement to ensure that both the Civic Festival and Kaodenero’s planned album launch proceed without disruption.
According to Bah, the Civic Festival will take place as scheduled from December 11–13, with the final day dedicated to attending Kaodenero’s show at Sugar Land Beach. The minister reaffirmed his strong relationship with the rapper, stressing that “nothing can come between us,” and pledged continued collaboration to advance Sierra Leone’s entertainment sector.
The dispute arose last week after the Ministry of Information and Civic Education released dates for this year’s Civic Festival. Critics on social media, including prominent figure Sylvia Blyden, condemned the ministry for setting dates that clashed with Kaodenero’s album launch.
While some defended the ministry, arguing that the Civic Festival follows an established annual calendar that the Entertainment Ambassador should have been aware of, others rejected this claim and urged the ministry to reconsider its announcement.
