Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Solomon Jamiru Esq. has informed all political parties in the country that only the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) has the power to ban political parties from contesting elections.
He made this assertion in a news Conference on 16 February 2023 in Freetown.
The Deputy Minister stated his presentation by telling newsmen that President Julius Maada Bio is a law-abiding president.
He assured all political parties that are registered with the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) of all rights and privileges entailed in the laws of Sierra Leone to democratically take part in free and fair elections.
Solomon Jamiru Esq said, when political parties are in confrontation with the laws of Sierra Leone, it is the sole priority of the ECSL to determine whether to ban or hold a referendum but not the government.
He said President Bio’s government will always ensure that there is peace in all election campaigns.
The Deputy Minister assured the people that the government is duty-bound to protect the lives and properties of all citizens in Sierra Leone.
