Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah has said the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) would secure a landslide victory in the 2028 general elections if the country’s energy sector becomes a central issue in the campaign.
Speaking during the Government’s weekly press briefing, Bah cited what he described as major investments and ongoing reforms in the energy sector under the administration of President Julius Maada Bio.
According to the minister, the Government has initiated and supported several projects aimed at expanding access to electricity, increasing power generation, and improving the sustainability of the country’s energy supply.
“If energy becomes the debate for the 2028 elections, the SLPP will win by a landslide,” Bah said.

He pointed to initiatives including the proposed Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact, valued at approximately US$500 million, and the Nant Energy Project, among other interventions intended to strengthen Sierra Leone’s energy infrastructure.
Bah said the Minister of Energy had outlined a number of ongoing projects expected to improve electricity generation and distribution across the country.
He argued that the Government’s investments in the sector demonstrate its commitment to improving living standards, supporting economic growth, and promoting industrial development.
The comments come amid continuing public discussions about electricity supply and access, with the Government maintaining that ongoing and planned investments will significantly improve the country’s energy capacity in the coming years.
