The top three winners of the 2025 Big 5 Innovation Investment Challenge received a combined prize of $60,000, with the first-place winner taking home $30,000, the second-place winner receiving $20,000, and the third-place winner awarded $10,000.
They were selected from a group of five finalists who advanced to the final stage of the competition, which aims to address critical issues within the Big Five Game Changers, including food security, clean energy, and other key development areas.
Mohamed Samu – Insect-Based Organic Fertilizer
Converting waste into high-protein animal feed and organic fertilizer using black soldier flies. Winner, awarded H.E. President Bio’s Innovation Award 2025 of $30,000.
Oswald Tech (Water Light) – Generating clean electricity from seawater to power off-grid communities.1st Runner-up, $20,000.
Cassavity SL Ltd – Producing cassava flour to cut import dependency and reduce post-harvest losses.
2nd Runner-up of $10,000.
Solar Agric – Offering solar-powered crop drying and storage to reduce food waste.
Cross-Border Blockchain Payments via WhatsApp – Making financial inclusion a reality through seamless, low-cost international transactions.
According to the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation, all five finalists will travel to South Korea for a global exposure visit.
