The Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu, has extended Christmas and New Year greetings to officers of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), development partners, stakeholders, and the general public, while reaffirming the Force’s commitment to peace, security, and national development.

In his Christmas and New Year message, the IGP described 2025 as both a challenging and rewarding year for the SLP, noting that despite prevailing security concerns within the country and the sub-region, the Police remained resolute in protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and upholding the rule of law.

He said that through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and enhanced inter-agency collaboration, the SLP was able to sustain relative peace and stability nationwide. He commended police personnel for their dedication, resilience, and professionalism, acknowledging the personal sacrifices made in service to the nation.

The IGP also highlighted progress in the ongoing police reform agenda, particularly the transition of the SLP from a “Force” to a “Service.” He explained that the reform focuses on people-centred policing, professionalism, accountability, respect for human rights, and strengthened community partnerships, which have contributed to improved public trust and confidence.

According to the statement, the SLP recorded notable institutional and developmental achievements in 2025, including capacity-building initiatives, improved personnel welfare, expansion of specialised units, enhanced training programmes, infrastructural development, and the integration of modern technology to support effective policing. These achievements, he noted, were made possible through the continued support of the Government of Sierra Leone, international partners, and public cooperation.

As the festive season approaches, the Inspector General assured citizens that comprehensive security measures have been put in place nationwide, with officers deployed to provide visible policing, traffic management, and rapid response services to ensure a peaceful celebration. He urged members of the public to act responsibly, adhere to the law, and cooperate fully with law enforcement personnel.

Looking ahead to 2026, the IGP said the SLP remains determined to consolidate gains made, address emerging security threats, and further improve service delivery. Priority areas include deepening community engagement, strengthening professionalism and discipline, and leveraging innovation to meet contemporary security challenges while supporting peace, democratic governance, and sustainable development.

He called on citizens to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and proactive in sharing information that promotes public safety, emphasizing that policing is a shared responsibility.

The message concluded with appreciation to His Excellency the President, the Government of Sierra Leone, development partners, sister security agencies, the media, and the general public for their continued support, while wishing the nation a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
