The Minister of Internal Affairs, Lengor, convened a strategic security meeting on Monday, 8th December 2025, with the leadership of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to intensify measures for a peaceful holiday season and sustain the national fight against lawlessness.
Held at the Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom, the meeting included Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu, his deputy Sahr Yomba Senesi, and Local Unit Commanders of the Western Area. The focus was on mounting strict enforcement to curb disorder throughout the festive period.
Minister Lengor stressed the police’s fundamental duty to protect lives and property. “I want to urge you all to understand what is happening in your designated areas, and be able to address issues with a quick and preventive approach,” he stated.

While commending recent efforts, particularly in the fight against drug abuse (Kush), the Minister admonished the commanders on pervasive issues of lawlessness and indiscipline. He highlighted specific targets for the crackdown, including noise pollution in residential areas and other illegal practices that threaten public safety.
“A lot of progress has been made, but more efforts are required for its sustainability, which is key for the country to attract investors and for development to thrive,” Lengor noted, linking public order to economic growth

He further encouraged a bolstered community policing strategy, emphasizing that stakeholder engagement is critical to the success of police operations.
In response, Inspector General William Fayia Sellu assured the Minister that security measures would be reinforced to maintain peace throughout the festive season and beyond, echoing directives from a prior meeting with the Local Unit Commanders.
