The Minister of Internal Affairs, Retired AIG Morie Lengor Esq, together with the Executive Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Chief Andrew Jaiah Kaikai, has inspected a four-storey building suspected of being used as an illegal drug manufacturing site in Freetown.
The building, located off Taylor Street, Fourah Bay Road, was earlier raided by the NDLEA following intelligence reports linking it to the production of kush a dangerous synthetic drug as well as other prohibited substances. According to Minister Lengor, the premises were believed to have been operated by a group of individuals involved in the preparation, manufacture, and distribution of illegal drugs.
During the raid, the occupants and suspected drug producers managed to escape, and none have returned to the property since the operation, which took place two months ago.
Minister Lengor emphasized that the state remains vigilant in combating drug-related crimes, and noted that the NDLEA had issued a formal seizure notice on the property in accordance with Regulation 10 of the National Drug Control Act (Arrest and Seizure), 2021. He added that further investigations are ongoing and that the building may be subject to forfeiture to the state, pending the outcome.
Chief Andrew Jaiah Kaikai, Executive Director of the NDLEA, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to clamping down on drug trafficking and the local production of illicit substances. He stressed that kush continues to pose a major threat to public health and national security, and that no effort will be spared in dismantling drug networks operating within the country.
Authorities are urging members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in locating the suspects and ensuring accountability.
