In a major step toward strengthening sustainable reintegration efforts, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sierra Leone on Thursday hosted an onboarding session for implementing partners under the EU-funded Migrants Protection, Return and Reintegration (MPRR) programme.

The session marks the rollout of a new approach aimed at expanding Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) opportunities for returning migrants across the country.

According to IOM, the initiative is designed to address core challenges faced by returnees by equipping them with market-relevant skills, entrepreneurship training, and psychosocial support—key tools needed to rebuild their lives and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Working closely with the Government of Sierra Leone, the programme focuses on four priority areas:

1. Building capacity among institutions and local partners

2. Providing technical assistance to improve service delivery

3. Supporting entrepreneurship and livelihood opportunities for returnees

4. Delivering skills training through TVET partnerships aligned with job market demands

IOM says these interventions will help create pathways for self-reliance, reduce vulnerabilities, and strengthen socio-economic reintegration for migrants returning home.

The EU-funded MPRR programme continues to play a central role in supporting humane and sustainable migration management in Sierra Leone, with the latest effort reflecting a renewed commitment to long-term empowerment.
