Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK) has criticised the Bio led administration after the University of Sierra Leone (USL) terminated the contract of critical political scientist, Professor Jimmy Kandeh.

Dismissal of Prof. Jimmy Kandeh, FBC, University of Sierra Leone, for being critical, has reawakened the stark reality of the dangers of despotism and naked abuse of powers,” Kamara said.

The former Justice Minister said the action was shameless as it seemed like a crucifixion of education “with the sword of greed and thirst of power”.

The termination of the Professors contract follows after he publicly criticised the Government and denied on TV that President is the father of democracy in Sierra Leone.

The Professor said that he has taught at the University of Richmond in the US for over 30 years with “an unblemished record”.  He added that his termination comes as he was preparing to lecture a new crop of graduate students.

He said, although he is yet to receive an official letter from the university, the Political Science Head of Department, Dr. Rev. Fr. Leonard Omar Bangura notified him that his services were no longer needed.

The Professor affirmed that his termination is politically motivated and added that he even received salaries for December and January after the University claimed that his contract together with others expired in December.

Some graduate students of the department have confirmed to Sierraloaded that the lecturer is very effective and passionate about his work. They added that he is the only lecturer to have completed his syllabus within the set timeframe.
