Fake degrees whistleblower, Dr. John Idriss Lahai has stated the three categories of fake degrees Sierra Leones are obtaining from legal and illegal institutions in and out of the country.
Dr. Lahai made this revelation today on social media.
“Generally speaking, there are three categories of fake degrees. The first category is typically a degree that seems to be issued by an accredited institution, but the degree is in fact produced illegally. The person who bought the document has never studied at the institution in question,” he said., adding that, This is a major problem in Sierra Leone.”
Dr. Lahai furthered that, “The second category comprises degrees that are issued by accredited institutions, but the holder of the degree certificate has altered the information in the document, most commonly the grades,” noting that, “This is order of the day in Sierra Leone.”
“The third and last category includes fake degrees issued by fake Universities and Colleges (Degree shops). Degree shops grant ‘degrees’ to people who pay for this service, but do not offer any educational training,” he added, stating that, “This is endemic in Sierra Leone.”
The whistleblower went on to post the picture of the Inspector General of Police, Ambrose Sovula, stating that all his degrees are fake.
“This is Sierra Leone’s Inspector-General of Police, Ambrose Sovula (his Bachelor’s , Master’s and PhD degrees are all fakes),” he asserted.
Dr Lahai needs to clarify the import of being offered honorary doctorate degrees by institutions, whether these are deemed to be accredited institutions or not. There are also those who buy or forge their degrees. I would not be botthered with the former. The later as described in this piece is a crime. The IG’s case, as stated here is disturbing, to say the least. Is this true? What have the state authorities said or done in this case? If this true about the IG, this is a call for immediate dismissal from the police service and charge for a criminal offence.
