Judging by the recent presidential appointments, it is certainly obvious that President Bio is gradually changing the political sphere in Sierra Leone.

Over the past two decades, his predecessors barely entertained the thought of bringing young people into the picture of governance. The fact can not be gainsaid or refuted that our political landscape has been dominated by old folks who didn’t bring anything to the table other than untold hardships for the people of this nation.

The appointment of Mr. Chernor Bah as the Minister of Information and Civic Education coupled with the appointment of Dr. Sengeh as Chief Minister and the list goes on is a testament to the fact that President Bio is not afraid of making bold decisions. It is time for young people to be trusted in governance.

Frankly speaking, nobody will come to save young people. It is only young people that will save themselves. It is the major reason why they should have a seat at the decision-making tables.

Our government and other stakeholders must make sure that young people are represented in parliament, local councils, and advisory bodies. Representation of young people in governance processes will ensure that their voices are heard, and their views are considered in policymaking.

Furthermore, President Bio’s government has undeniably contributed greatly to our educational sector, and the significance of this on the part of young people can not be overemphasized. Investing in the skills development, education, and leadership training of young people is essential and crucial to prepare them for active participation in governance processes.

Moreso, young people are often at the forefront of social movements advocating for democratic values and positive social change. Their voices have the propensity to challenge the status quo in any nation.

The fact that H.E Bio has started bringing a fraction of young people on board to be part of the echelon of decision-making in the country. This has comprehensively shown that there is still hope for every young person out there to make a positive change for the betterment of this nation as we are trying to obliterate the dominance of old politicians in the political domain. As they say, “To whom much is given, much is expected” as young people have been entrusted by the president. They are expected to do extremely well in their capacities because positions of trust should not be taken for granted. Our time is now!
