President Bio has appointed the outgoing Director-General of SLBC, Joseph Kapuwa, the new Chairman of the Independent Media Commission. As a lawyer and communications professional, Joseph is expected to utilize his unique experiences to oversee and effectively regulate the media landscape.

Josephine Kamara replaces Joseph Kapuwa as the new Director-General of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation( SLBC). Josephine, a development communications and journalism expert, began her career at SLBC and has since worked for Voice of America, USAID, and other institutions in various capacities.

Kapuwa took over as the SLBC Director-General in 2018 following his appointment by President Julius Maada Bio and subsequent approval by the Parliament of Sierra Leone.

His appointment Letter is in accordance with  section 3[2] of the Independent  Media Commission, 2020.

Kapuwa, the new Independent Media  Chairman is advised to contact the clerk of Parliament who will arrange the meeting  with the committee  of appointments  and the Public Service  of Parliament for his final approval.
