The Judiciary of Sierra Leone, in collaboration with the Judicial and Legal Training Institute (JLTI) and support from UNICEF, has concluded a two-day orientation and refresher training course for High Court Judges and Magistrates at Mozza Resort, York Village.

The training focused on adjudicating cases involving children in conflict with the law, civil and criminal procedures, and emphasized the unique needs and vulnerabilities of young individuals.

Deputy Chairman of the JLTI, Hon. Justice Reginald Fynn, highlighted the importance of continuous professional development for judicial officers to ensure effective service delivery in justice administration. He commended Chief Justice Komba Kamanda for his commitment to enhancing the training of judicial personnel during his tenure.

In his opening remarks, Chief Justice Kamanda reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring equal access to justice, particularly for children, and urged judicial officers to uphold the core values of independence, impartiality, and integrity. He warned that any behavior contrary to these principles would face strict scrutiny.

The training covered critical topics, including the Criminal Procedure Act 2024, civil procedure comments, and juvenile interactions with the law. Participants included 36 Magistrates and seven newly appointed High Court Judges from across the country, aimed at increasing access to justice nationwide.
