Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, Sierra Leone’s Vice President, joined President Bio and First Lady Fatima Bio in a touching Muslim prayer session to mark the UN Women International Day on November 18th.
The event took place at the State Lodge, 17th November, 2023, where the leaders were joined by the First Ladies of Nigeria and Angola.
Dr. Juldeh emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating, “Ahead of the UN Women International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, I joined President Bio together with the First Lady of Sierra Leone, Nigeria, and Angola at the State Lodge this morning to mark the occasion.” The gathering symbolized a collective commitment to ending violence against women and girls, fostering unity among the nations.
Highlighting Sierra Leone’s progress in addressing gender inequality and protecting women and girls from physical and sexual violence, Dr. Juldeh expressed determination. “Sierra Leone has come a long way to tackle gender inequality and protect women and girls against physical and sexual violence. We will leverage our position in the UN Security Council to continue to promote women’s rights and well-being.”
The participation of First Ladies from Nigeria and Angola underscored the global nature of the struggle against violence towards women. The joint prayers and commitment showcased a united front in addressing the challenges faced by women worldwide, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in promoting gender equality and safeguarding the rights and well-being of women and girls.
