KABBA DUMBUYA AND HIS INVOLVEMENT IN THE BLOODY COUP
I. In EPISODES 7 and 8, we highlighted the INVOLVEMENTS of the 9th Accused, Staff Sergeant Idrissa Kallon and the 20th Accused, Sergeant Fofanah Kemoh respectively, in the bloody November 26 Coup.
II. Today, we will look at the issue “Kabba Dumbuya and His Involvement in the Bloody Coup?”
III. Kabba Dumbuya is one of the assailants who rained TERROR in Freetown on the day of the said Coup. He is currently on the run.
IV. In the just concluded Court Martial trial involving the State versus Staff Sergeant Alhaji Koroma and 26 Others, the Prosecution tendered several pictorial evidence in which Kabba Dumbuya was spotted in the attack on the Country’s main custodial centre along Pademba Road in Freetown.
V. During the said attack, a total of 2,203 inmates were set free by Kabba Dumbuya and his cohorts. This number included the 14 military personnel, who were initially arrested and detained in July, 2023 for SUBVERSION AGAINST THE STATE and were awaiting trial.
VI. Dressed in blue-colour jeans trousers and grey-colour shirt with maroon-colour cap on his head, Kabbah Dumbuya was seen with an AK 47 rifle during the attack on the said custodial centre.
VII. Like Idrissa Ahmid Kamara alias Leather Boot and Staff Sergeant Ibrahim Thorlu Bangura alias Tiger, Kabba Dumbuya served in the then SECURITY DETAIL of former President Ernest Bai Koroma, who has been also accused of involvement in the said Coup.
VIII. In the wake of the Coup, while Kabba Dumbuya escaped ARREST, “Leather Boot” was killed in action and “Tiger” was arrested and tried by the just dissolved Court Martial.
IX. “Leather Boot” was killed in a fire fight after he had shot and killed Corporal Sam Kabba and Sergeant Thomas Rogers, who attempted to apprehend him at his hideout inside the main armoury facilities at Murray Town Barracks.
X. “Tiger” was the 21st Accused in the just concluded Court Martial trial. He was recently slamed with the MAXIMUM JAIL TERM of 120 years after being CONVICTED of 40 counts of Mutiny, Conspiracy to Commit Mutiny, Failure to Suppress Mutiny, Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Aiding the Enemy, Communicating with the Enemy and Conduct to the Prejudice of Military Discipline. We will review the evidence against “Tiger” (the 21st Accused) in one of the subsequent EPISODES.
XI. After being investigated for his involvement in the said Coup, on 3rd January, this year, former President Ernest Bai Koroma was arraigned for a Preliminary Investigation (PI) at the Freetown Margistrate Court No. 2 presided over by Magistrate Santigie Bangura.
XII. The former President was charged with four counts of TREASON and MISPRISON OF TREASON and two counts of HARBOURING.
XIII. With regards the offence of HARBOURING, former President Koroma has been accused of having harboured the fugitive Kabbah Dumbuya, the jailed Staff Sergeant Ibrahim Thorlu Bangura (the 21st Accused) and others at his premises in preparedness to overthrow President Bio.
XIV. Shortly after his arraignment at the Magistrate Court, former President Koroma was diagnosed with a medical condition. On 17th January, 2024, he was granted bail by the Freetown High Court presided over by Justice Samuel Taylor. By Court Order, the former President was permitted to travel Nigeria for MEDICAL TREATMENT.
XV. On 17th July, this year, the trial of the former President was again adjourned to 18th November, this year, which will be a few days to the first anniversary of the BRUTALLY KILLING of the 18 security personnel and two civilians by KABBA DUMBUYA and his cohorts.
