Traders in Kailahun have yet to comply with the government’s directive to reduce the price of rice, leaving residents struggling with inflated costs despite an official price reduction.
According to the government’s announcement, the price of a 50kg bag of rice has been set at 840 Leones, with an additional 13 Leones for transportation, totaling 853 Leones for Kailahun. However, local traders continue to sell rice at prices exceeding 1000 Leones, causing financial hardship for residents.
“The cost of rice has been rising steadily, and it’s making life unbearable,” said Paul S. James, a resident. “We can’t afford to properly feed our families.”
Community members accuse traders of deliberately inflating prices to maximize profits, ignoring the government’s directive. Speaking on a local radio program, James stated, “The government has reduced the price, but traders are refusing to comply. This is exploitation.”
Frustrated residents have called on the government and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action against traders violating the price reduction order. They are demanding regular inspections and penalties for non-compliance.
“We need the authorities to intervene,” James urged. “We cannot continue to suffer under these unjustified price hikes.”
The defiance of traders has sparked widespread anger in Kailahun, with residents insisting on urgent government enforcement to ensure adherence to the new pricing policy.
Government can only succeed to control prices of commodities by producing their own.
Are well, am just watching from afar.
Government must put stop to that. Traders are always making things difficult for the citizens they are always looking for over profits forgot that their neighbours, family, friends are all facing the difficulties, traders are the main problem of this country no price control.
