Opposition politician Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray has sharply criticized President Julius Maada Bio over the delayed payment of December salaries to government workers.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Mansaray expressed outrage, stating, “Dear Julius Maada Bio, I received countless messages to indicate that Sierra Leonean workers didn’t receive their salaries before Christmas.
“Why are you doing this to the people who needed their salary to put smiles on their family faces for the Christmas holidays. This is wrong and wickedness to the highest degree. What a shame!”
The delay in salary payments has caused significant anxiety and frustration among government workers across the country. Teachers are particularly affected, with many expressing deep concern over their inability to provide for their families during the holiday season.
“I was hoping to prepare a nice meal for my children tomorrow,” said one teacher who wished to remain anonymous, speaking to Tombo Media Engagement Blog. “If I receive my salary today, I plan to go to the market and buy the necessary cooking items.”
The situation has led to long queues and anxious faces at banks across the country as workers wait for their salary alerts.
In response to the growing discontent, State House Communications Director, Micheal Berewa, issued a statement acknowledging the delay. “Hey folks, salaries have been processed!” the statement read. “There was a bit of a snag with the e-transfers from our central hub to different banks. Kudos to our GoSL Payroll team and all banking institutions who are working extra hours to ensure you receive your alerts.”
“Hey folk”, funny stuff. I am sure even though the same system is used for payment of salaries for tiffman president and ministers dem, and and their pockets are always stuffed from stolen funds, their salaries were paid on time.
