Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Energy has released a press release, debunking news making rounds that Karpowership is shutting down operations in the West Area.

According to the Ministry, the news of Karpowership shutting down its operations in the Western Area is untrue.

“The Ministry of Energy wishes to inform the General Public that the news doing the rounds in the social media about the Karpowership shutting down its operations in the Western Area is untrue,” the Ministry stated.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the impasse with respect to accrued payments to the Ship has been amicably resolved with the timely intervention of the Ministry of Finance.

“The Ministry of Energy therefore wishes to notify Sierra Leoneans that the Ministry of Finance has held fruitful discussions with Representatives of the Karpowership and the issue relating to payments owed to the Ship has been settled,” the Ministry noted.

The Ministry of Energy further revealed that during the meeting, the two parties reiterated their commitments to deepening the contractual ties and to enhancing the convivial working relationship between them.

“In view of the above, the General Public is assured that Karpowership will continue with its normal operations by way of providing electricity for residents of Freetown,” the Ministry concluded.
