In a viral video that has gained significant attention on social media, Assistant Commissioner of Police Joan M. S. Bull Kamara, head of the Legal and Justice Department of the Sierra Leone Police, highlighted the critical issue of human trafficking in the country.

“In her address, Bull pointed out that human trafficking is rampant, with many individuals posing as international job recruitment agencies.

She emphasized that human trafficking is a serious crime, explaining how these impostors lure victims by promising well-paying jobs, only to deceive and extort money from ordinary Sierra Leoneans.

Bull further explained that once victims travel abroad, they often realize that the promises made to them were nothing but falsehoods. She shared a poignant example of a current case involving a woman who traveled to work as a housekeeper, only to face assault and abuse by her employer.

The Assistant Commissioner urged Sierra Leoneans to remain vigilant against fake travel agencies claiming to offer overseas jobs.

She encouraged the public to report any suspected human trafficking activities and to verify job offers abroad, particularly those targeting potential workers in Asian countries.
