His Worship Thomas Karimu Baio, the Mayor of Kenema City, has made a public appeal to councilors and all stakeholders within the Kenema City Council to actively combat corruption by reporting any suspected illicit activities directly to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Mayor Baio’s strong urging comes in response to recent suspicions and allegations raised by councilors within the Kenema City Council. Addressing the critical need for transparency, responsibility, and ethical conduct in public service, Mayor Baio emphasized the importance of taking concrete action against corruption.
“If anyone has any evidence or suspicion of corruption within the council, I implore you to report it to the Anti-Corruption Commission,” Mayor Baio stated firmly. “Let us move away from mere gossip and innuendos. Our collective purpose here is to serve the people of Kenema, and we must uphold this duty with unwavering honesty and openness.”
The Mayor further stressed the significance of adhering to due process and cautioned against the spread of unsubstantiated claims. He urged everyone to channel their concerns constructively by engaging directly with the appropriate legal authorities, namely the ACC.
The Anti-Corruption Commission is an independent institution in Sierra Leone with a clear mandate to investigate and prosecute all instances of corruption-related offenses within the nation. Mayor Baio’s call underscores a commitment from the city’s leadership to foster a culture of accountability and integrity within its governance structures.
