The Sierra Leone Police in Kenema has introduced new regulations governing street jogging, a popular activity also known as “cross country,” within the city.

These measures were agreed upon during a high-level meeting that included the police, the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, school principals, civil society organizations, religious leaders, the Local Policing Partnership Board, the Free Quality Education Secretariat, media representatives, and local councillors.

LUC Alphonso Abdulai Fambulleh of the Kenema Police stated that the increasing participation of school pupils in street jogging was becoming a concern, with some individuals reportedly using it to disrupt public order.

While emphasizing that street jogging is not being banned outright, he clarified that it must now be conducted responsibly and within specific guidelines to ensure public safety.

The newly established guidelines, developed in collaboration with AIG Francis Moses Tower, include:
Designated Days: Street jogging is permitted only on Saturdays and Sundays.

Permitted Hours: The activity is restricted to between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
Prior Police Approval: All schools and organizations planning public jogging activities must obtain written permission from the police beforehand.

AIG Francis Moses Tower called on parents, teachers, and the wider community to be vigilant and support the police in enforcing these new regulations to maintain public safety.

Mr. Michael Kpulun, Deputy Director of Education for Kenema, commended the police for their proactive measures in ensuring the safety and security of residents.

He affirmed the Ministry’s full support for the new guidelines and urged school administrators to comply and set a positive example in upholding law and order.
