The Kissy Dock Yard Community is currently facing a significant issue regarding the misappropriation of eighty million old Leone, which was presented to them by G. Shankardas & Sons Ltd on March 24, 2025.

The cheque was given as part of the company’s Social Corporate Responsibility to aid in community development. However, it has come to light that the funds were not deposited into the community account for proper accountability.

It is disheartening to learn that due to the lack of an accounting system within the community, individuals took advantage of the situation by using the cheque for personal gain. Since the cheque was received, there has been a lack of transparency regarding its whereabouts, causing concern among community members.

An investigation revealed that the Honourable Princess Daramy received the cheque and passed it on to Chief Daramy, Chief Williams, and Shekar Kamara, the outgoing Community Chairman. This transfer of funds was done without the knowledge of key stakeholders, raising suspicions of clandestine activities.

Additionally, there are concerns raised by Community Stakeholders and youths regarding the expired term of Shekar Kamara and his executive team. Despite their term ending, they have refused to vacate their positions, leading to accusations of self-enrichment at the expense of the wider Dockyard community.

It is imperative that a thorough investigation is conducted to determine the truth behind the handling of the funds and to hold those responsible for any wrongdoing accountable. The integrity of the community and its leaders must be upheld to ensure transparency and trust among all members.

The actions of the Shekar administration are both frustrating and inhumane. They have been going around collecting money under the guise of benefiting the community, only to line their own pockets and leave the community in disarray.

Since the establishment of G. Shakandas, there has been a lack of proper structure within the community. Money is being controlled by a select group of greedy individuals, as highlighted by the renowned musician Emerson Bockarie.

An elderly community stakeholder has revealed that Shekar Kamara and his team are operating the community affairs like a secret society, treating the residents with disrespect. They have mishandled funds collected for projects such as borehole construction, resulting in poorly executed work that has left the community without access to clean water. Recently, they obtained a cheque for eighty million from Shakandas, raising suspicions about their true intentions.

It is imperative that the Anti-Corruption Commission intervenes to protect the community from these individuals who are exploiting and looting its resources. Christopher Mammie, Chairman of the Dockyard Community Market, has expressed his disappointment at not being included in discussions regarding the cheque presentation.

Furthermore, Solomon Turay, another respected community stakeholder, has raised concerns about the recipient of the cheque. The community deserves transparency and accountability in all financial matters, and it is time for those in power to be held responsible for their actions.
