Former Sierra Leone President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma recently joined Nigeria’s most influential figures at the launch of former Nigerian President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida’s debut book, A Journey In Service.
The event, held in Nigeria, brought together a who’s who of West African leadership, marking a historic moment of reflection and camaraderie.
The high-profile occasion saw the attendance of several former Nigerian heads of state, including Yakubu Gowon, Olusegun Obasanjo, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and Goodluck Jonathan.
Current Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was also present, alongside Ghana’s immediate past president, Nana Akufo-Addo. Representing former President Muhammadu Buhari was his ex-Transport Minister, adding to the star-studded assembly.
The event also drew former Nigerian vice presidents Atiku Abubakar and Yemi Osinbajo, as well as current and former governors, senators, and prominent business magnates such as Aliko Dangote, Prince Arthur Eze, and Tony Elumelu. The gathering was a testament to the enduring influence of Babangida, who served as Nigeria’s military president from 1985 to 1993.
The highlight of the historic event was when Babangida publicly acknowledged that the late Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, widely believed to have won the annulled 1993 presidential election, was indeed the rightful winner.
Expressing regret over his decision to annul the election, Babangida’s remarks were met with solemn reflection by the audience, many of whom played pivotal roles in Nigeria’s political history.
