Former Attorney General, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara has called for a diplomatic and peaceful resolution to the ongoing treason case involving former President Ernest Bai Koroma.
Speaking during an interview on Truth Media, Kamara, who is also part of Koroma’s legal team, stated that the matter remains before the court but has been adjourned for a considerable period. He expressed hope that the issue would be handled diplomatically to allow the former president to return to Sierra Leone safely.
Kamara noted that five treason-related cases connected to the broader matter have already been concluded.
According to him, in none of those cases was the former president mentioned as a financier, harborer, or accomplice. He argued that given these developments, it may be time to approach the situation through dialogue and peace talks.
He emphasized that former President Koroma wishes to return home, describing him as someone who has consistently demonstrated commitment to Sierra Leone.
Kamara pointed out that Koroma remained in the country even during the civil war and said he believes the former president’s presence in Sierra Leone would allow the country to benefit from his experience and ideas as a former Head of State.
Kamara also referenced the regional dimension of the matter, mentioning the role of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). He noted that President Julius Maada Bio, who currently serves as Chairman of Economic Community of West African States, could consider facilitating a diplomatic resolution in the interest of national peace and stability.
According to Kamara, there is no evidence directly linking the former president to the allegations in the specific treason case.
He maintained that there is no substantive case against Koroma and urged authorities to discontinue the matter for the sake of reconciliation and unity.
In his appeal, Kamara called on President Bio to consider granting pardon or taking steps that would allow the former president to return home, arguing that maintaining peace and mutual respect among political leaders is essential for national cohesion. He added that leaders should be mindful of the precedent such cases set, noting that no former president would wish to face similar circumstances after leaving office.
The treason case remains before the court, and no official decision has been announced regarding its discontinuation.

Some of these lawyers,we are really doubting their integrity.
U saying koroma is not involved in any of the aligation, then calling on prezo Bio to perdorn koroma. I don’t understand Sir. How and for what now.
Confuse dot. Come.
There is not going to be any diplomatic resolution, he must stand trial in the treason cast, if he comes back and nothing happened, we Sierra Leoners will take to the street and protect.
If
Is Fitzgerald in his right frame of mind? How can one assert that former President Koroma has no involvement in the treason case, yet simultaneously request diplomatic dialogue and a pardon to promote national cohesion?
