Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, has officially launched a 2,500-hectare private farm in Makari Chiefdom, Bombali District.
The farm is owned by SierraTec and led by CEO Salieu Kanu.
The farm is fully mechanized. It includes 15 tractors, 3 harvesters, and a rice mill. This investment is part of the $10 million credit facility introduced by the government in partnership with the Bank of Sierra Leone to support private sector farming.
SierraTec is one of the companies that received funding under the facility. Their operations are focused on expanding rice cultivation in the northern region through the FeedSalone program.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Kpaka met with the Islamic Development Bank in Freetown. After the meeting, he traveled to Bombali to launch the project.
The Ministry says it will continue working with private farms that are contributing to national food production.
