The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security has warned the public against fraudulent advertisements claiming to offer overseas employment opportunities through private recruitment agencies, describing such notices as fake.
In a public notice, the Ministry clarified that it does not advertise overseas job opportunities on behalf of private recruitment agencies. Instead, it said its role is to supervise and regulate the overseas recruitment process to ensure that all recruitment activities comply with the country’s labour laws and established regulations.
The Ministry cautioned job seekers to exercise vigilance whenever they encounter advertisements or notices promising overseas employment, stressing that such claims should not be accepted at face value.
It urged members of the public to contact the Ministry to verify the authenticity of any overseas recruitment advertisement before making payments, submitting personal documents, or taking any further action.
According to the Ministry, verifying such information is an important safeguard against falling victim to scammers and fraudulent recruitment schemes targeting people seeking employment abroad.
The Ministry also appealed to the public to widely share the warning in order to increase awareness and help protect others from employment-related fraud.
It reaffirmed its commitment to promoting lawful and transparent recruitment practices while safeguarding the interests of Sierra Leonean job seekers.
