Popular African Young Voices (AYV) Television Journalist, Amadu Lamarana Bah has demanded an apology from Hon. Tawa Conteh for discrediting his report about the Anti-Corruption Commission investigating the Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Paran Tarawally, and his wife for alleged corruption.

Bah broke the news of the alleged corruption on Saturday, prompting a swift reaction from Hon. Tawa Conteh on Twitter. Conteh, in a tweet (X), dismissed the report as fake and urged Bah to verify information before relying on articles from sources he deemed unreliable.

My brother @LamranaAmadu, this is fake and should have been verified before relying on pure maligned article from a certain Freetown post.” Conteh wrote.

However, on Sunday, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) confirmed that it had indeed initiated an investigation into corruption allegations against Hon. Paran Umar Tarawally and his wife, Mrs. Abibatu Tarawally.

The ACC’s press release, dated 14th January 2024, disclosed that the investigation revolves around claims that the Clerk of Parliament improperly employed his wife and that, since her hiring, Mrs. Abibatu Tarawally has not been fulfilling her duties but has been receiving salaries.

The press statement by the ACC aligned with Amadu Lamarana Bah’s original report, confirming that both individuals are currently on bail and the wife has paid back some amount of the money she received as salary for the 10 months she was on the payroll of Parliament.

In response to these developments, Journalist Bah called on Hon. Tawa Conteh to take responsibility and issue a public apology. He criticized Conteh for not only misleading the public but also for defending an individual he had accused of corruption in 2019. The controversy surrounding the alleged corruption case continues to unfold, with the public eagerly awaiting further updates on the ACC’s investigation.
