Lawyer Emmanuel M. Kamara has issued a public apology to the Honourable Chief Justice and the Judiciary following widespread public and media attention surrounding his donation of three light bulbs to Magistrate Court No. 8 in Freetown.
In a public notice dated 7 July 2026, Kamara clarified that the donation, made on 1 July, was a personal gesture motivated by his character as an officer of the court and was never intended to attract publicity or portray the Judiciary in a negative light.
The donation sparked extensive public discussion and media coverage, with many interpreting the gesture as highlighting deficiencies within the Judiciary.
However, Kamara distanced himself from that perception, stressing that his action was not meant as a publicity stunt, nor was it intended to embarrass the Judiciary or undermine the administration of justice.
“Whilst I did not induce or push any publicity, I regret the media publicity the issue has garnered and I hereby apologise to the Honourable Chief Justice, the Judiciary and all the staff members that have been put on the spotlight unnecessarily as a result,” he stated.
Kamara further reaffirmed his confidence in the Judiciary, describing it as a competent institution capable of effectively managing its affairs. He also commended the leadership of the current Chief Justice, noting that the Judiciary has significantly progressed under the present administration.
He concluded by acknowledging the institution’s achievements and expressing regret over the unintended public attention generated by the donation, while reiterating his respect for the Judiciary and its leadership.
