The organizers of one of Sierra Leone’s biggest festival Ma Dengn has on Friday 21 October Launched the 2022 Edition, schedule to take place on the 17th -18th December, with the Theme; We Lek We Salone, Noto pan Hype’.
Launching the Madengn beach festival 2022, Yeaniva Sesay states that their passion for this festival shows is to show that they have the intetest of sierra Leone in their heart and in everything they do, adding that Ma Dengn is the biggest festival in Sierra Leone and they are now 13 years in the game, Yeaniva also encouraging partners that partnering with ma dengn will make sure your brand is aligned with the current trend in sierra Leone, increase their brand visibility, and gain traditional and digital media and a host of other opportunities.
Sinkarie Sesay disclosed that the beach festival showcases breathtaking fashion, mouth-watering cuisine, innovative arts and crafts, progressive literature, and feet-stomping traditional and contemporary music of Sierra Leone on a world-class platform
She further stated that they are partnering with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, National Tourist Board, Freetown City Council, Africell, and a host of other sponsors in commitment to ensure the festival’s success
Representing the Minister of Tourism, The permanent secretary Kwame Yankson during his opening speech Said he is honored to witness the launch of the Ma Dengn Beach festival 2022. stating that It’s heartening to see so many supporters of the festival- sponsors, vendors, artists, creatives, and advocates. This is a testament to Ma Dengn’s staying power in the cultural festival space in Sierra Leone. he states
He adds that It also portrays the fact that Ma Dengn Festival is not only about the members of the Association, but it is our festival, a Sierra Leonean festival that we should all support and nurture to grow and push boundaries.
He adds that the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs has been collaborating with the Ma Dengn’s Association for over eleven years now. That shows how deep and strong our relationship has been over the years. he noted
” Festivals such as Ma Dengn’s annual beach festival resonates with the Ministry’s strategic goal of promoting tourism through cultural events that tourists to Sierra Leone, within the broader objective of boosting economic diversification. He states
The permanent secretary stated that It is against this backdrop, that the Ministry of Tourism will continue to strengthen its collaboration with the Ma Dengn Association to deliver its Annual Festival and hopefully make Sierra Leone a destination country for festival goers in the sub-region and globally.
He furthered that Ma Dengn is where the old and the new converge creating a platform for Sierra Leonean artists across a multitude of mediums, genres, and sectors to showcase their talent while its marketplace has also supported many entrepreneurs to access new markets with a focus on “made in Sierra Leone wares.
” The Ma Dengn festival has carved a niche in the cultural space that makes it a unique treasure with the ability to translate this breath of Sierra Leonean talent and creativity on a world-class stage and marketplace, with the mesmerizing Lumley beach sparkling in the background. It is this niche in the cultural festival space that the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs will leverage to help the Ma Dengn Association grow beyond its current status.
The Ma dengn Beach Festival is an annual event that takes place in Sierra Leone.
According to its organizers, it was “conceived out of a collective need to celebrate and promote our Sierra Leonean culture, through music, the arts, literature, fashion, and our beautiful terrain…
“The vision for the beach festival is to have a dynamic interaction between performers and audience, with a variety of staged performances ranging from international and local contemporary and traditional musicians/dancers to our infamous masquerade performances from secret societies such as Hunting and Paddle, to exposure to Sierra Leonean literature through short skits and dramatic poetry.
“There will also be a good display of the arts and crafts, which will be for sale and educational purposes, and an opportunity to taste the tantalizing local cuisine. The beach setting will create a unique backdrop to such an event that will only enhance the enjoyment of the audience. The aim is to tap into the four corners of Sierra Leone to bring to the festival a diverse representation of our arts and culture, which will be a true showcase of the entire country.”
