The Minister of Transport and Aviation, Kabineh Kallon has disclosed that his ministry under the Sierra Leone Integrated Resilient Urban Mobility Project (IRUMP) will soon release the designs of the new flyovers which are to be constructed along the Freetown Road at Lumley, Bottom Mango at Wilberforce, Jui and Shell New Road.
According to the MTA, the project implementation unit of IRUMP in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) under its national road master plan has completed the conceptual design for pedestrian overpasses in the above-mentioned locations.
The construction of these flyovers aims at improving access to quality public transport, improve road safety in selected areas and also enhance institutional capacity to plan and manage urban transportation, among others.
He continued that the four flyovers for strategic intersections were identified in collaboration with SLRA, adding that the idea was defined in the National Road Master Plan of SLRA as one of the bottlenecks to the free flow of traffic, and at the same time, identified as accident-prone locations due to conflict between vehicles pedestrians.
