In an ongoing five-day debate on President Julius Maada Bio’s recent address to Parliament, Majority Leader Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma commended Members of Parliament for their contributions, emphasizing the importance of national unity, economic stability, and agricultural growth.
Nyuma praised the debate’s constructive tone and reiterated the President’s commitment to peace and development.
Speaking on President Bio’s political journey, Nyuma highlighted Bio’s role in advancing democracy during the NPRC era and pointed to the President’s ongoing dedication to unity and national cohesion. Nyuma referenced key sections of the presidential speech that stressed peace, stability, and inclusiveness as pillars of Sierra Leone’s future.
The Leader also urged MPs to avoid politicizing agriculture, a sector President Bio prioritizes for achieving food self-sufficiency. Acknowledging past administrations’ efforts, Nyuma praised Bio’s distinctive leadership in agriculture, noting substantial donor support for the sector. He called on MPs to collaborate across party lines to drive the nation forward in agricultural and economic initiatives.
Addressing economic concerns, Nyuma lauded the National Revenue Authority’s achievements in revenue mobilization, contrasting it with what he described as an “economic mess” inherited from the previous administration. He asserted that the current government has set Sierra Leone on a path to recovery, bolstered by international donor confidence. While many Sierra Leoneans continue to face hardships, Nyuma argued that President Bio’s administration is making measurable progress.
Nyuma also highlighted strides in human capital development, particularly in education, which he said has elevated Sierra Leone’s standing internationally. In closing, Nyuma called on MPs to prioritize Sierra Leone’s national interests, urging unity and commitment to the nation’s forward trajectory.
