Makeni, a popular city in the north of Sierra Leone and once known as the city of light has gone 15 days without electricity.
Power outrage in that part of the country started with the shutdown of the Bumbuna hydro dam for 10 days for reasons of maintenance which timeline expired on the 23rd May 2024 but electricity is yet to return.
According to Sierra Leone’s BBC reporter Umaru Fofona in a Facebook post stated that the official reason this time is technical issue.
He continued that a usually reliable source said the actual reason is financial reason which he said a senior Electricity Distribution Supply Authority (EDSA) official did not deny or confirm the rumor.
Makeni residents have no reason to complain about fifteen days power failure. The city has enjoyed over twenty years of continuous electricity supply, while the city of Freetown and other cities around the country have gone for weeks and sometimes months without electricity power supply. Let Makeni taste the bitterness of power failure.

Duya we for enjoy light
If Makeni has enjoyed over twenty years supplies, does that mean they shouldn’t anymore???? I don’t know why lunatics and nonentities have turned everything into politics in this nation………Even a social necessity the country is supposed to be enjoying, they say it’s been happening for too long, yet they forget they have been eating for too long.
