Following the presidential appointment, the Parliament of Sierra Leone officially approved His Worship Magistrate Mark Ngegba as a new High Court Judge, alongside other Justices of the superior Court of Judicature.
The announcement was made on 22nd May 2025 during a session held at the House of Parliament in Tower Hill.
Magistrate Mark Ngegba has built a career in the legal field, with over 20 years of experience spanning military, legal, and human rights sectors. A retired Captain of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), he has transitioned from a military leadership role to a respected judicial position.
His legal career commenced in the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, where he served as a prosecutor within the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. He played a vital role in legislative matters in the Parliamentary and Drafting Division.
His dedication to justice continued at the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, where he held pivotal roles as a Senior Human Rights Officer and Acting Director of Complaints, Investigations, and Legal Services.
In 2017, Magistrate Ngegba was appointed to the bench, earning a reputation for judicial integrity, fairness, and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law. His promotion to Senior Magistrate came in 2021, and he currently serves as the Judge Advocate at the RSLAF Courts Martial, utilizing his military legal background to enhance military justice processes.
Magistrate Ngegba holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honors (LLB Hons) from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, and a Barrister-at-Law (BL) degree from the Sierra Leone Law School. He has further enhanced his qualifications through international certifications in anti-corruption law, conflict mediation, and military justice from esteemed institutions, including the Defence Institute of International Legal Studies (USA), Clingendael Institute (Netherlands), and the Judge Advocate General’s School (US Air Force).
Magistrate Ngegba has also participated in various international seminars and workshops focused on legal reform, human rights, maritime security, and gender-based violence. His notable engagements include attending the Commonwealth Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association Annual Conference in Kigali, Rwanda, and participating in seminars on maritime piracy and international humanitarian law.
With a commitment to upholding the principles of fairness, diligence, and public service, Honourable Justice Mark Ngegba is poised to make a significant impact on the judiciary of Sierra Leone.
